 Last
summer, a federal district court in Arkansas overturned the law for religious
exemption to immunization leaving only a medical exemption. This left Arkansas
parents with no religious exemption two weeks prior to the start of the
school year in 2002. The Foundation for Health Choice filed an amicus brief
in federal court challenging the constitutionality of forced immunization.
The case is now moot, since the Arkansas legislature just passed a philosophical
exemption.

The new law allows for a much broader exemption than the state has ever had including medical, religious and philosophical exemptions from immunization.
